This sculpture is of an imaginary man displaying some aspects of stereotypical masculinity: heavy eyebrows, rich beard, testosterone baldness and steadiness and secure feeling in who he is, where he is and by closing his eyes I am indicating an intelligent internal life.
Material is bronze resin (cold cast bronze) patinated to appear quite traditional in colouring. His neck is a little shorter than expected in a usual treatment of a bust and shoulders and that is on purpose here to move away from tradition and slightly upset the view.
He is not mounted and stands alone as a piece of work at the moment, even though I made him as part of my Masters degree. I try to achieve this in most of my work – to take it a little beyond the experimental and closer to the ‘finished’ state of work.
He has to stand alone.
